Storm

November 29th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in base

Did some skiing yesterday. It was pretty nice. For once there were no lines and on some runs Thigh Deep Powder! The Draw back was the 4hr drive home. Normally for me to get home from Copper Mountain It’s about an Hour and 15 Minute ride but with this huge storm that came in and gave us the lovely powder it also backed up traffic for miles. The Main hold up was the Eisenhower Tunnel which goes through the Continental Divide. To keep traffic from backing up in the tunnel and creating potentially deadly carbon monoxide fumes in the tunnel they we’re only letting a few vehicles through at a time. Along with the near whiteout conditions Traffic was pretty much at a stand still. People were leaving their cars fairly regularly to clean the ice and snow from the windshield wipers. At one point right before the Tunnel a car in the lane next to us was slammed into by a car infront of it that slid down the hill we were stuck on. It was insane!

Long Way Round

I ended up being real lazy last night watching alot of tv. (something i don’t normally do) Kinda hooked on that Billionaire show with Richard Branson (Virgin) After that Fox debuted some Hospital show… which ehh was aight but I won’t make it a point to watch it And then End up on bravo watching a show called Long Way Round I was totally Hooked. Pretty much Ewan McGreggor and a Buddy are driving around the world on Motorcycles and documenting the whole thing on Camera. It seems like its trying to fit in with the reality show that you find everywhere but… it’s more like a documentary you’d find on National Geographic (which I prefer) Good show looks like the next episode is Thursday night which i believe is Mongolia (man I miss my DVR)

New Mexican Food?

November 16th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in food

Coming from what people here like to call the “East Coast” though most of us know as “Ohio” Every Town seemed to have a very good fairly authentic Mexican Restraunt. Most of you reading this are probably familiar with “The Camp” or El Campesino” At least there once a week I craved that place. But, with that and a few other places that was about it. After moving to Denver I realized that they took their mexican food very seriously. An Annual Chili Harvest festival in Peublo, There is a mexican place on every street corner, the Local paper rates the Areas best Green Chili. I guess it should be quite obvious seeing a decent percentage of the local population is Mexican or of Mexican decent. When I first came here seeing green chili on the menu I expected something similar to what you might find at Wendy’s only green. That certainly was not the case. None the less I am trying to get a grasp on this phenom here. Anyway, this past weekend I passed a place advertised as “foods of New Mexico” Hmm what exactly does new Mecican food consist of? So today I checked it out. I ordered the New mexico Plate. It had a tamale, cheese enchilada, beef taco, rice and beans All covered in Green Chili and on the side a Sopaipilla with honey for dipping. Not bad for 6 bucks! And to me it sounded pretty Mexican. The food was outstanding. But, I’m still not sure why it is “New Mexican” I did a little research when I got back. A colleague at work informed me that Little Anita’s Is a Local chain out of NM who recently expanded into the Denver Area. The following is the best definition of New mexican food I could Find “New Mexican comida, or food, is a spicy blend of cultures: Native American and Hispanic–which has created the most unique and temptingly sabrosa (flavorful) comida under the New Mexican sun. In fact, you will find our chile verde (green) and rojo (red) to be equal to the heat found on the sun, so bring along your own personal supply of H20 if it gets a little too hot for you in the cocina (kitchen). All and all It was still good and I can’t wait to go back… Wait I saved half for lunch tomarrow wohoo!

First Ski

November 14th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in base

We finally made it out to the resort yesterday. It was okay, Real nice for early season. All in all with the type of snow the crowds and the amout of trails and lifts open it equated to probably an average mid season day at Holiday Valley. So I can’t complain one bit. Quite surreal to be going so early in Novemeber. It was good to get out stretch the legs and what not. Winter Park Opens next week I have yet to ski there, I can’t wait!

Smelling Good the Full Throttle way

So I’m sure most of you have seen that custom motorcycle show with the Dad and the Two brothers that scream at each other. Well they are apparently celeberties now and what does every celeberty need or want? their own line of Cologne! They were being interviewd this morning on the local news show.. i couldn’t believe it but i guess I could. I dug up this article when I got to work. Newstimeslive.com Going ‘Full Throttle’ Also some of the quotes from their press release:

“Fire Up a Top Note: Gear up and feel the freshness of the open road. Set the pace for a wild ride with a black sambuca accord consisting of anise, mint and cooling black licorice blends paired with bergamont, kumquat, juniper berries and an intoxicating rush of white pepper.

“Fuel-Injecting Mid Notes: High-octane sexy clean accord of revved-up lavendar, geranium, hedione and laurel.

“Cruise the Base: The warmth of amber, textured cashmere woods and moss wrapped in a super soft suede accord.”

Pretty funny!
