Video Game Wednesday
November 11th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in baseHad some fun at work yesterday. A guy that teaches a videogame theory class, came into shoot a course intro for the website. I took some video of him talking then we got to hook the ps2 up to the editing station to capture game footage. SO we pretty much played video games all afternoon. Wish i could do that everyday
I made sure we captured some footage of Katamri Damacy and as soon as I get that posted I will link it here.
Google Taking over the world.
November 10th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in gtotw, taskI have this theory based on several things that happened in the last year that Google is planning to take over the World. They are starting small by first taking over the Desktop computer and Internet world. To start there is their launch of G-mail (still in beta) The E-mail System that gives all of it’s users 1gig of storage space! It also quite smoothly bases its ads off of the content in your emails. This along withs its easy to use (of course highly searchable) interface and according to This Article pop access soon, is obviously aimed at crushing the big webbased Email providers (Hotmail and Yahoo) Another app they have developed is the Google desktop search. Just like the search function that comes with windows (allowing one to search for files, programs etc on their local machine) only a thousand times faster. Plus The look and feel of google. I find it interesting that google seems to be jumping out early to combat the new windows os (codenamed Longhorn not due out for a few more years) is supposed to center around its search function. Microsoft seems to be getting a bit antsy and has come back with their own in house developed web search engine. Based on This Article explains that microsoft too will have its own desktop pc search engine. On top of that Google in the last few months went on a hiring spree scooping up some of microsoft’s browser programmers. Are they in the process of creating a browser too? Here are some Clues to that. There are several other little things Google has been doing including items like Froogle, their shopping site, and the aquisistion of several smaller software companies, something has to be up their sleeves. By the looks of it, the currently “cool” google may soon turn into this beast slowly swallowing up everything in its path just like Microsoft did in the last 15 years.
Free Hands Free
November 9th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in baseThe people at FreeHeadset.org are out there trying their darndest to promote safe cellphone use while driving. That is why they give you a free handsfree set for your phone. All you need to do is go to the site and sign up. Slight shipping fee (around 4bucks) and about a 3week wait but that’s nothing to help make our roads safer.
Virtualdub
November 9th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in taskSome individual wrote a real basic non linear video editor in college and has since released it free to the public. This software called Virtualdub looks as if it really only handles very basic funcitons like cutting, splicing, and applying some filters and fades. I remember exploring this software a few months back but recall it’s limiting exporting and importing functions. The newer version has updated this though is still limited to some AVI and MPEG1 files. Personally I may be able to use something like this at home, where i do minor edits for some of my work, but it certainly doesn’t look like it could replace premeire which I use frequently at work. When I get a chance I will try to run this and see what it is all about.
Squash Dilema
November 9th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in foodWe had a few squash laying around the place that I wanted to use up. But every night I wasn’t in the mood for something sweet I’ve only had acorn squash a few times and every one of those times it was baked with brownsugar and butter. It’s quite tasty and very sweet. I was chatting with a friend the other day and he mentioned a meal that his roomate made. It was baked acorn squash and was prepared in a more savory way than I had ever seen. I told him of my acorn squash laying around so he sent me This recipe Believe it or not it was quite good. Aileen liked it alot too (go figure it was all veggies) I don’t know if it is for everyone out there but give it a whirl you might be surprised.
Firefox – Rediscover the web
November 9th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in base, taskWell It looks as it’s official now Firefox 1.0 has been released and is out of “beta” I’m not sure what exactly that means because I know there will still be bugs and improvements. As I discussed witha friend earlier, The whole versioning thing is but a marketing ploy. None the less it’s a much cleaner, efficent and faster running browser. I highley reccommend it.
Hair
November 8th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in baseSO I finally get my lazy butt in to the barber shop this weekend to get the hair chopped. No big deal it happens all the time. It’s the response from others that puzzles me. For one, A compliment or criticism would probably be in hand but instead it is a question. Now I could understand if I went in for a trim, but I had a substantial amount removed and still people that I’ve seen the day before begin the conversation with “Did you get your haircut?” I guess its just a way to start the conversation but It should me much more than obvious. SO I’m resonding to such absurdity with comments such as “No That was a wig I always had on.” or “No man, I woke up and it was just like this, kinda weird huh?” Well Thats sume up my weekend.

November 5th, 2004 by The Knighthawk | Comments Off | Filed in taskNvu – Open Sourse WYSIWYG Web authoring tool This looks to be very promising. Has site management, claims to handle css very well. Included is a css editor and various other goodies. Any one looking for something like frontpage or dreamwever that is completely free, this may be the answer. I still havent used it but like I said it looks promising.
