Welcome Back to Denver Aileen

In most cases you would think picking someone up from the airport is a very uninteresting and common task. I mean there is the aspect of seeing a person that has been away and that is great. But other than that a fairly common task. That certainly was my mentailatiy last night when I left work to pick up Aileen from her extended stay in Ohio. To be honest with you that part of the evening was fairly basic. Traffic wasn’t terrible and I managed to get there on time picking her up with no problem. That was where the normaility of the evening ceased. During the conversation on the ride home aileen began to discuss how she had a weird feeling about the day and thought something was going to happen on the flight. Sure enough turing the corner onto our street we noticed a good half dozen cop cars lined at the intersection in front of our place. “Another accident” said Aileen referring to the countless car accidents that occur in front of our place. As we got closer and eventually pulled in to a parking spot adjacent our apartment there were no signs of any smashed up cars, glass etc. Right at that moment my mobile phone began to ring (well i guess phones really dont ring anymore, it was the C’mon down theme song from the Price is Right, but that’s beside the point.) It was a friend of ours. “Hey BJ what’s going on at your place… we saw all the cops” Right then I tunred to my left and saw two Police officers at our front door . “Yikes I’m not sure I’ll call you back” Aileen and I jump out of the car up to the porch “thats our place is something wrong” Immediatly I wondered about our pets and our neighbor downstairs. After a few minutes of verifying who we were to the cops, we learned that Aileen’s car was broken into and taken for a joy ride by a meth addict/dealer who was presently being pursued on foot. somewhere about a mile away. He had ditched the car after being cornered into an apt complex parking lot. On foot he dropped down from a 20ft wall slicing his head open to the bone. It was several blocks from there when he was finally taken down. When all was clear at the scene aileen and I were escorted in a police cruiser to her car to check for damage answer questions and eventually reclaim the car. The car was fine, nothing was taken, yet he had rummaged through and left the inside a mess. He also left a back pack full of narcotics, needles, meth, cds and a keyring loaded with 50 or so generic master keys used for getting into cars. Go figure. None the less they got the idiot and Aileen has her car back. We then proceeded to get some Mexican food and drink! Aileen has been instructed to thouroughly clean her car very carefully with saftey gloves. SHe was told she may find some needles in there and quite possibly more drugs. What a day! It’s funny when you get those weird feelings. None the less, welcome back to Denver Aileen!.
