No Frills Podcast info

After years of knowledge absorption and months of development, our team at RawVoice launched PodcastFAQ.com today. Finally one site that has everything you need to know about podcasting. At least that’s the plan. We know that we couldn’t think of everything, that’s why we left the site open for community/user contribution. Simply click the “submit content” button and let us know what’s missing or inaccurate. Two weeks ago we opened the site up to our community at Blubrry, Podcasternews and TechPodcasts and they have helped us a ton getting it ready for today. So… if your looking to learn a bit about podcasting, get refreshed or just want to see what its all about. Check out PodcastFAQ.com. [http://www.podcastfaq.com/]

Podcast and New Media Expo Day 1

Just woke up. Spent much of yesterday Traveling and setting up the Booth and Podshack. The Gig officially starts today. We had a few stop over at the podshack last night… I can feel the excitement. This should be a good expo.

Going to California

Today being a Wednesday is my Friday at the day job. Tomorrow morning I leave for Ontario, California (which may be one of the armpits of the state) for the Podcast and New Media Expo. I am heading there to support my RawVoice teammates for we plan to have a busy weekend. We have launched several New Tools for Blubrry, Podcasternews and Techpodcasts that we will be promoting and demoing at our Booth on the show floor. In addition to our booth, we have several meetings scheduled as well as 3 nights hosting a Hospitality suite (the PodShack.) For anyone heading down to the expo please stop by and say “hi” at Booth 315.

Possibly my Next MP3 Player

I can’t believe it took this long but someone may have finally gotten it right. SanDisk is partnering up with yahoo music and producing an mp3 player with Wifi that does what it’s suppose to do. If you have a Y! Unlimited account (which I do) and open wifi network you will be able to connect to Y! Music download songs and listen to the Launchcast streaming radio stations. This is an extremely exciting announcement. Unfortunatly 250.00 (4gb model) is a bit high for me so I will have to wait a bit until I get one of these things but, I think I have found my next MP3 Player. I have two questions. based on the EMI decision to offer drm free music if and when Yahoo offers drm free EMI stuff will this device download it? Also will you be able to download podcasts on this thing? If so this device will be paving the road for what Apple, Microsoft and others should do. Hmm I bet the iphone will be able to do all this too. I hope so the more the better. [link to story] [link to Sandisk Sansa Connect]

I know I know

Well I’m not sure how much longer I can use the busy excuse but, yes I’ve been busy so I apologize to all 0-3 of you that may read this. It hasn’t helped that Performancing for FireFox stopped working on this machine… I will need to look into that. Alot of things have been cooking that past few weeks a big one being the Podcast & Portable Media Expo that took place this past weekend in dreary Ontario California. Luckily the Expo was not nearly as depressing as the town it was being held in. In fact it was a very overwhelming experience. We had a booth this year and that proved very successful along with our hostpitality suites we hosted in the evenings. The response to Blubrry, Podcasternews and the RawVoice Generator were great. Unfortunatly it means one thing. I will continue to be busy beyond all relief. But that’s Good! Check out Pics of us hard at work last weekend here

Ahh Monday!

Well, due to the interest of Second Life in the world of podcasting suddenly, I have once again immersed myself into the virtual worl. And yet again I am spending quite some time in it. Everyone has their own reason for their SL addiction, for me its the creativity. When I’m there all I want to do is build create, design etc. It would be scary if I ahd more free time on my hands.

Counting Down

It’s been a busy week trying to get all my xmas shopping down and staying on top of PCN Development. We’ve had an onslaught of applications for new podcasts so it’s been a process of getting them all set up. Along with further development and other related projects sometimes I have to remember to come up for air. Oh and as i mentioned xmas presents. I’m a little over half done but still need to find some key Items. This time of the year certainly keeps ya busy but I love it. A week from today we will be on the road towards “The heart of it all” Ohio!!!!

Podcaster News Network

This may have been of the more busy of my life. Work all day come home work all night. My eyes are burnt out from staring at monitors all week. But It will be worth it. We have been putting finishing touches on the Podcaster News Network and I have to admit, it’s pretty slick. It’s going live tomorrow Friday Nov 11th. I’ll be in LA tomorrow for the launch at the Portable Media Expo and Podcast Convention. I can’t wait. So anyway click the link and check it out.

Yeah I know most of you are wondering exactly what the Podcaster News Network or PCN as we call it actually is. The following is taken from the about page

The Podcaster News Network has been developed to offer you short 3 – 5 minute podcasts, produced by our own PCN podcasters. You customize your daily news by choosing podcasts from various categories. By creating a PCN User account (sign up takes about a minute) you will then have the ability to select as many podcasts as you like and create a custom newscast. This custom news cast can then be listened to straight from the site, downloaded to your home computer /mp3 player or subscribed via a single RSS feed.

Let’s say your morning commute consists of a 35 minute jaunt to work. Log in to PCN, create a custom newscast of 7 for a perfectly timed newscast. Remember, each PCN podcasts last 5minutes. Subscribe to your Mycast feed and all of your news selections will be downloaded right to your chosen device. ”

I’m tellin ya it’s cool Anyway check it out http://www.podcasternewsnetwork.com

Educause Week!

It’s Been a Busy Busy week here in Orlando. I’m here at the Educause 2005 Conference partly as a podcast coorespondant for Educause. We will be posting several podcasts a day showcasing various sessions, members and presentations.

This has already become a very exciting and promising week, though I will be anxious to get home and rest. The last few weeks have had me running a million mph. One of these days i may get a chance to talk about the blazin wing contest! But i must save that for another night…Time for bed.

The Rig

That’s right folks… the rig arrived yesterday and I finally got it set up. For those of you who are wondering to yourself “what the hell is he talking about?” I purchased some audio equipment earlier this week to better my online audio presence. Please review this post Also, it’s a bunch of cool toys I can tinker around with at home when I’m bored. Well first off it is nothing fancy, but after some rough tests yesterday the mic sounds a million times better that the logitech headset i was using. The mixer is equally as Great. I have 8 channels and 100 onboard effects to mess with plus the thing has a usb out so I have a direct in and out with my PC. The computer sees it as another audio device (sound card) which with my already two soundcards installed, gives me a ton of flexibility. Of course i had to plug in a guitar last night and mess with that too :) I am excited. Here is a link to some pics I took of the set up. Dont forget to check out next weeks Interstate1002 to hear the rig in use.

New Rig

After several complaints (Mostly Tony;) ) and really just me putting it off, I’ve finally ordered a much needed and wanted audio rig. The two key components are the Alesis Multimix 8 Usb Mixer and the MxL990 condensor mic. I should have the equipment by the end of the week and will be able to set it up and start messin with it by the weekend. I’ve also set up a Flickr site. Right now I have no photos posted but when I get the rig that will more than likely be the first stuff I post to it.

Podcasting goes from indie to mainstream overnight

Screw big wigs! We don’t want their repackaged crap up there. Podcasting became what it is because it wasn’t that network crap!

The iTunes Effect

An interesting article on how iTunes affected podcasting and podcasters in its first week of podcast support. It’s funny because until this release of iTunes there wasn’t much podcasting coming from the major media networks, but now they are plastered all over the Itunes podcasting Site. What idiots! Oh well. Oh and according to Itunes, The top Podcast of the week is the “iTunes New Music Tuesday,” Gotta love it! Sigh.

Itunes 4.9

Was released for download today with the much anticipated “Podcast” feature. I checked it out… Pretty cool. You can now browse and subscribe to thousands of podcast right in Itunes. Unfortunatly i don’t see much of a need for the Ipodder clients anymore. I think it’s going to bring podcasting to a whole new audience! Watch out!

Ohh and yeah Interstate 1002 is in their directory :)

It’s almost time

Good morning all. Well, it’s going to be another unseasonably warm day just east of the Rockies here in Denver. Quite depressing to myself the skier and all the other skiers and snowboarders in the area. I guess Feb was the second driest since it’s recorded history. Despite all that I still had one of the best days skiing in my life last week.

Anyways… Many of you have read my recent posts and have been inquiring about this “big things to come” that I mentioned a few days back. I dunno if it wasn’t obvious but due to my recent obsession with this whole podcasting phenomenon, I’ve decided to produce one of my own. It really is an invalid statement saying “of my own” for I have several friends on board for this project, but I am sort of at the helm of this one and it has certainly kept me quite busy.
First off if you are reading this and wondering what exactly a podcast is I have plenty of posts in the “podcasting” catagory with explanations.
We recorded “live to drive” our first podcast last night. It had its ups and downs, but thats good so now we can learn from that and only make it better. I should have it available along with the site hopfully tonight so stay tuned.

Thats all for now.

Daily Source Code

Well my true quality Ipod listening time just happens to occur on my daily walks to and from work. That usually works out to about 30 min each way. Like many people who listen to the radio on their daily commute they prefer talk. For me it just makes the time go by much faster. A key reason I was interested in Podcasting. After downloading Ipodder I was looking through the hundreds of podcasts and could have picked several of them but since my time was limited to about an Hour and I didn’t want a huge back log of podcasts sitting on my harddrive i decided on two. The first was suggested by my brother. It was the Chris Pirillo Show He was some guy that used to be on tech Tv and now does a weekly podcast from his home and from various tech related conferences he attends. If your a dork you might like and most of the time I don’t mind it though his voice does get on my nerves sometimes. You may see two podcasts a week from him so it certainly doesnt fill all of my time. The other one I decided to check out was The Daily Source Code. This was from the guy that pretty much pioneered this whol podcasting thing. I wrote about him a few weeks back. Anyway I’m hooked on his show. I can’t remmber the last time I was so excited to listen to something like this. Like they say about podcasting, it’s real and his show is, He’s done a show from an airplane and while cleaning the kitchen being Mr. Mom. But there is more to it that just that. For one, He talks alot about the whole podcasting thing. which I had mentioned before, I’m really interested in. Every show he plays a clip from another podcast to give you a feel for what’s out there., and he keeps it interesting with musical “podsafe” contributions such as the “Hit test” and the “mashups” So to wrap it up Reading Rainbow style. If your looking for something to listen to that’s new, exciting and real and your interesting in the podcasting world, The Daily Source Code will be Top Notch!”

The Podcast

I Must admit I’m intrigued and confused about this whole “podcast” phenomenon. I heard about it months ago but the concept really didnt make much sense to me. Essentially people record some sort of audio based show (news, talk music etc) then create an mp3 andupload it to a server for people to download (usually to their iPod or similar device) At this point these people can listen to it at their own will. Now who is going to want wait for for such a (I’m assuming) fairly large audio file to download. Usually with mp3s we’re talking roughly a meg a min so 30minutes = 30mb

Anyway, 4-5 months later I’m reading this article and it turns out Adam Curry you know that old MTV personality from the late 80’s early 90’s c’mon the one that looked like Bon Jovi?!? well, he pretty much started this whole podcasting thing. In fact he taught him self the apple scripting language to write the ipodder software that helps you move podcasts to your device. I really like the concept I would just expect a smaller file format or something. But now that I have a high capicity digital audio player, I may explore this down the road. Hell, if I find a cast I dig I could see the worth.
